How reusability helps our customers

The vision of AA is to make the creation of Content Technologies a profitable business.

AA’s mission is to provide cutting-edge and best-in-class algorithm solutions for any pattern recognition application

>> Background and Basis - AA in a changing world

The 21st century will be the century when knowledge creates wealth (50% of capital spending in the US is on technology)

Any solution today requires use of advanced IT enabled or embedded technology in some form or other. For example, the biggest recent developments in medical science have been in technology, not in new drug discoveries

The application of IT to collect and send information is saturating. There is need for mining useful content from the huge amounts of information collected

This is not just for hi-tech applications but even in homes and small businesses

The foundation of these content mining technologies will be intelligent reusable algorithms

Companies with such competencies are the companies of the future

India is a global player in this area

>> Raison d'etre

The founder visionaries of AA are a group of the world's finest minds, each among the top five in the world in their chosen fields. They have come together to pool their decades long expertise in various aspects of pattern recognition. The model of working is that of a network of global experts who form a group to take up specific projects, complete the project and regroup to handle a new project. The horizontals at AA are mathematical technologies that can be common across many verticals, the latter being the real world application domains.

Abstract Algorithms (AA) is a company of the future. The last decades saw the increasing predominance of the new giants (Microsoft, Oracle, Wipro, TCS, Infosys) who specialized in creating reusable software over the older leviathan computer hardware makers (IBM, Digital, Data General). This was called the age of Information Technology. The software and sensor revolution ushered in inter-connectivity and speedy and centralized information gathering. Today, we need to make sense of these vast amounts of information in real-time. Today, increasing automation and value-added IT-enabled solutions (see e.g. in medicine or automotives) are the fastest growing areas of technology. AA believes that in the coming decade creating reusable algorithms - the core of these value-enhanced solutions - will take over from creating reusable software. These algorithms have applications in virtually any area of human enterprise - industry, healthcare, government, defense, agriculture, leisure or home. AA likes to term this coming era as the age of Content Technologies.

AA has developed a cost-effective model for global R&D. The model has been proven over nearly two decades of collaborative work. It has resulted in the creation of some of the fastest algorithms ever and among the most accurate one's too

The founders of AA have over the years been able to work with Indian talent to consistently develop advanced technology solutions under-cost and in-time again and again. This model of best-case and best-cost development is the cornerstone of AA's ability to be world-class at unmatched costs. (India has a civilisational and historical fondness for algorithmic mathematics and logic, education is highly prized in India, it will be a huge market for technology enabled goods, and needless to say will remain cost-effective in this area for a long time to come.)

>>  How reusability helps our customers

For example, a detection algorithm that counts and determines the morphology (shape) of cells in a digital microscopic image can also count traffic from a 5 dollar camera image or nanoparticles from an electron microscope image or detect targets from a radar. Or, from industrial images, it can detect rivets on an aircraft wing, blow-holes in fine surfaces, objects on a conveyer belt etc.

The mathematics behind these detection algorithms is often the same. AA uses its strength in the mathematical horizontals in different application or domain verticals, thus saving significantly on costs and time-to-market. Just as in a software company a great VC++ coding team could work in medical domain but also find its VC++ expertise providing value for, say a team working on banking software.

Also, innovations from one domain area could add value to those applied to quite a different area.
